September 12, British Consul General in Yekaterinburg David Martin Fenner visited YUSU during his first official visit in Ugra.

Tatiana Karminskaya, YUSU rector, informed the honoured guest about the social activities in the university, its role in the region's welfare, as well as university-based science schools, cultural and sports events. Mr. Fenner noted that the year of 2017 was announced a Year of Science and Education in Russia and the UK, followed by the Consulate General to hold a number of events and welcomed YUSU to join.

As the meeting proceeded, priorities were set out, and a cooperation plan between the university and the consulate was outlined. There will be public lectures, World Skills Championship events, international research papers publications, academic mobility, round tables, etc.

The British side evinced interest in joint research in global climate change on the premises of YUSU-based Mukhrino International Field Station and suggested these meetings between YUSU's and Cambridge University's academia to become the world's first "Science Cafe".

The Consul General recommended losing no time making this happen and co-host an event as early as this year. The round table discussions "Green Building" to be headed by Guy Eames, Green Building Council Russia CEO, will kick start the future cooperation. The key speaker will reveal trends, advancements, and achievements in the green development business in Western countries and worldwide along with green development features in Russia.
