February 27, the YUSU swimming pool became a host venue for the Russia vs. Spain 2018 FINA Women's Water Polo World League game.

The Europe's Preliminary Round match held in the Ugra capital -- Khanty-Mansiysk saw 16 goals scored in total, with the home team left 2 goals behind the leader after the full-time. The final score was 9 - 7 to secure the away win for the Spanish side.

The President of the Russian Water Polo Federation Alexey Vlasenko praised the university pool as a venue with perfect conditions to host international events.

– Why wouldn't we hold FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup here, though many cities bid to host this event? – Mr. Vlasenko said in a statement. – I asked the Spanish delegation how the flight, the weather, the venue, and the hospitality were. They replied everything was perfect.

Of note, water polo players said the pool here was easy to compete in.
