Rector of YuSU Roman Kuchin: “Strengthening educational ties between Russia and China is a long-term and mutually beneficial trend”

The development of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of higher education is today one of the key areas of international cooperation for both countries. The relevance of this topic is emphasized by the working visit to China of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, which is taking place this week. The trip is of a special nature in the run-up to the visit of the head of our state Vladimir Putin to China. It is expected that during it, 2026-2027 will be declared bilateral Years of Education in Russia and China.

Yugra State University is also in the trend of this strategic rapprochement, actively developing partnerships with higher education institutions of the PRC. The university already has a number of existing agreements with Chinese educational organizations that are successfully implemented in practice.

"Strengthening educational ties between Russia and China is a long-term and mutually beneficial trend. This is deep integration into the educational and scientific space of our countries. Our students are already successfully completing internships in China, getting acquainted with their unique traditions, language and culture. This is an invaluable experience that forms specialists in demand on the world market,” notes the rector of YuSU Roman Kuchin.

Special attention should be paid to the interaction of the two countries within the framework of the scientific agenda, in particular in the area of climate research. The university is a member of the Russian-Asian Consortium of Arctic Research and is one of the leaders in this field, carrying out advanced training of personnel in a wide range of areas to ensure sustainable development of the region and the country.

Developments in the field of ecology and carbon balance of wetland systems are of great interest to Chinese colleagues. Such international scientific and educational cooperation is strategically important for solving urgent water and environmental problems. Thus, the Scientific and Educational Center of the UNESCO Department of Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change of YuSU makes a huge contribution to the study of the functioning of forest-swamp ecosystems of the Ob-Irtysh basin, of which China is a part. YuSU scientists conduct meteorological and hydrological measurements, which, in particular, are an important component of complex research at the Mukhrino Carbon Test Site.

It should be noted that today YuSU has partnership relations with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University and Dezhou Vocational and Technical Institute. In addition, together with Lomonosov Moscow State University, intentions have been defined for cooperation with Peking University to create and develop an international scientific center for studying global environmental challenges.
