Leading universities from Russia's regions are initiating discussions in the international media space on the topic of training engineering, technical, and management personnel for BRICS countries and the Global South. Yugra State University has taken a major step in this direction by joining the TV BRICS network of higher education partners. A cooperation agreement was signed by Yugra State University Rector Roman Kuchin and Zhanna Tolstikova, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the International Media Network TV BRICS.
The partners' activities will be aimed at enhancing the international prestige of the Russian education system and developing cooperation between universities in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Joining the media network's partner pool opens up unique opportunities for the university to promote its educational and research programs globally.
"We are honored to become part of the TV BRICS media ecosystem so that Yugra State University's voice can be heard in BRICS+ countries. We strive not only to communicate our educational and scientific achievements to an international audience, but also to build on this foundation to build a real dialogue and create new opportunities for students, scientists, and partners from friendly countries. Science and education know no borders, and our task is to ensure that as many people as possible know about this,” says Roman Kuchin, Rector of YSU and a PhD candidate in biology.
Today, YuSU has over 10,000 students, over 150 of whom are from foreign countries. The university's structure includes its main campus in Khanty-Mansiysk and branches in Surgut, Lyantor, Nizhnevartovsk, and Nefteyugansk. The university is a key research center in the fields of climate research (it has a UNESCO Chair), oil and gas education, and information technology, actively collaborating with industrial partners, including companies in the fuel and energy sector.
Zhanna Tolstikova, General Director of TV BRICS, noted that issues of increasing access to quality education and training highly qualified personnel are equally important for all countries, and therefore are the media network's focus. TV BRICS not only expands the informational reach of global issues but also promotes the development of expert communities and implements and supports humanitarian projects.
These include the educational project "Modern Russian," InteRussia internships for young actors from BRICS+ countries, and energy workers from ASEAN and Latin America. These initiatives are aimed at achieving the goals reflected in the final declaration of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro and are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The university is actively developing partnerships with Rossotrudnichestvo's Russian Houses abroad, working to attract applicants from the CIS countries, as well as Ghana, Zambia, Egypt, Bangladesh, and Latin American countries, and participating in consortia and projects with universities in BRICS and the SCO countries.
Joining TV BRICS was a logical continuation of this strategy. The media network's educational partners currently include more than 30 institutions from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Ethiopia, Cuba, and Nepal. In 2026, the network partnered with the International Competence Center in Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO at the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University, the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, the University of Havana (Cuba), the Oscar International College Film School (Nepal), the University of Gondar (Ethiopia), and the State University of Campinas (Brazil).
