General information
The chair of foreign languages is a graduate chair. It delivers 150 theoretical and practical subjects in the fields of:
- linguistics and intercultural communication;
- the theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages and cultures; and in all directions as part of Bachelor's, Master's and post-graduate degrees of the university.
At present, the training is provided in English, German and French.
The chair employs 31 specialists, including 12 associate professors, 17 senior lecturers, one lecturer and a document specialist. All lecturers take further education courses in languages. Their participation in cross-cultural programmes made it possible for a number of lecturers to take training courses in the universities of Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, the USA and Finland.
The chair comprises three methodology boards in the following directions:
- linguistics as an area of professional training;
- engineering, technical studies and sciences.
The scientific interests of the teachers lie in the sphere of linguistics, methodology, language education, intercultural communication and translation. The sientific issue of the chair is "Intercultural communication as the social and linguistic area for the solution of ethical, social and professional problems (in language, teacing and translation/interpretation)".
The chair's research is aimed at:
- Studying the processes of intercultural communication, the strategies of solving ethical, social and professional problems;
- Formation of communicative competence of the students in the process of shaping the worlview in the second language;
- Motivating students to personal and professional development.
