Yugra State University organized a presentation of the Ecosystem Geoinformatics Laboratory. The youth laboratory, established in 2022 as part of the national project "Science and Universities" with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, is engaged in climate research. During the year, the materials and technical equipment were prepared and the first field season was conducted. Today, the employees are actively working on the implementation of the most important innovative projects of national importance, participating in the implementation of the federal project "Carbon Polygon".
Rector of Yugra State University Roman Kuchin addressed the participants with a welcoming speech: "Modern materials and technical equipment, new opportunities for the implementation of global projects, including the creation of Carbon Data Center in the region, new areas of activity - all this allows us to attract young and promising researchers and scientists to the region. Thanks to such initiatives we bring the human capital of Yugra to a qualitatively new level".
Elena Lapshina, Director of the UNESCO Chair "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change" noted that when the Chair was first established more than 10 years ago, no one even thought or imagined how relevant and in demand it would be: "And today we are at the beginning of the way again. The development of research with the use of unmanned technology requires specialists to develop additional professional competencies. This is what led us to the idea of opening a new area of training at Yugra State University " Cartography and Geoinformatics".
As a part of the event, the guests were given a tour of the laboratory, shown the equipment, which currently includes a set of unmanned aerial vehicles, high-performance workstations, remote sensing database with a data storage server, a room equipped with interactive demonstration facilities. In addition, those who wished could try themselves as a drone operator in the simulator.
