The experience of the Mukhrino Field Station was presented at the Russian-Chinese expert seminar

Evgeny Zarov, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory for the Study of Spatial and Temporal Variability of Carbon Balance in Forest and Swamp Ecosystems of the Middle Taiga of Western Siberia, took part in the Russian-Chinese expert seminar "Development of Scientific Diplomacy in the Arctic in the Context of Global Challenges", which was held in Arkhangelsk at the Lomonosov Moscow State University of the Arctic.

Representatives of ten universities and research centres of China came to the capital of Pomorie. Russia was represented at the seminar by delegates from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Khanty-Mansiysk, Tomsk, Syktyvkar, Murmansk, Yakutsk and other cities. The work at the seminar was conducted in three sections. During two days, in person and online, experts discussed issues related to geopolitical challenges, transport and logistics development, environmental and climate risks in the Arctic.

The YuSU scientist spoke at the section "Scientific diplomacy in the context of environmental and climate risks", where he presented the report "Carbon cycle and international scientific co-operation: experience of the Mukhrino field station" to the scientific community. Evgeny Andreevich spoke about the activities of the carbon polygon, the activities of youth laboratories and, in general, research directions: "Also offered options for interaction - joint scientific research, publications in the journal "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change" and exchange of students".

The seminar participants were impressed by the achievements of the YuSU scientists and asked how long the work had been going on and how they could get to the station. As the speaker noted, at the moment the most promising way to start cooperation can be considered the upcoming symposium "West Siberian peatlands and the carbon cycle", which will be held in August 2024.

"In general, we managed to communicate with colleagues from China who work in our field. We exchanged experience in applying for grants," said Evgeny Zarov.

We would like to add that Yugra State University is actively developing co-operation with Chinese universities. Thus, in summer, on the territory of the IV International IT-Forum with the participation of BRICS and SCO countries, a Memorandum of Intent was signed to develop productive cooperation with the Ocean University of China, Shanghai Institute of International Studies, Guangdong University of Foreign Languages and Foreign Trade. And in September at the XIII Forum of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Russian Far East and Siberia and North-Eastern Regions of China, Yugra State University signed a cooperation agreement with Dezhou Vocational Institute. Yugra State University will also focus on the development of research projects within the framework of the Russian-Asian Arctic Research Consortium. We would like to remind you that in September YuSU hosted a Russian-Chinese seminar on atmospheric physics, climate change, including in the Arctic, and the environment. At that time, leading climate scientists from the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences came to Khanty-Mansiysk.
