The second stage of Children's Carbon Polygon development was completed

Work on the organization of the Polygon was started in June 2023 by the staff of the UNESCO Chair - Scientific and Educational Center "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change" with the active participation of master's students of the direction "Ecology and Environmental Management".

Within the framework of the course "Climate Monitoring and Ecosystems Quality Management", Master's students of the Higher Ecological School installed equipment at the meteorological site of the Polygon: drilling of six wells (0.2-3.2 m) and installation of bases for soil thermometers, assembly of snow gauges, barometric cabinet, tested and prepared for operation meteorological recorders, organized a site for placement of automatic atmospheric-soil measuring complex, similar to those already operating at the Polygon. For preventive (seasonal) maintenance, the chamber system of automatic monitoring of greenhouse gas fluxes was dismantled, an inventory (revision) of the existing equipment was carried out, and a list of items required for the additional equipment before the Polygon is put into operation was compiled.

"The polygon will be used for organization of research work and environmental monitoring, will serve as a place for practical training for students of YuSU and partner universities in the field of instrumental measurements of greenhouse gas fluxes, monitoring of climate change, for implementation of additional educational programs for teachers, children and youth at regional, national and international level and popularization of knowledge in the field of climate change, education of the population of the Autonomous Okrug in the framework of implementation of adaptation measures. The students made a great contribution to the development of the Polygon under the guidance of professors (employees of UNESCO Chair)", - said Anastasia Koval, an associate of the Laboratory of Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations of Forest-Swamp Complexes of YuSU.
