One of the very first questions that every non-resident first-year student will face is what to take with them to their dormitory? The student curators helped us to find answers to this important question. We share their expert opinion.
Create a cosy environment
Daria Yudina, a student of the Higher School of Law, is sure that a first-year student should start by making his or her room cosy. A warm plaid and a pillow will help to make the atmosphere more homely. Also Daria recommend to take the necessary clothes, personal hygiene products, kitchen utensils and containers for food storage. ‘Dormitory is not just a room, but your new home, where you will live, learn and create memories. And how you furnish your room will determine your mood and comfort,’ the student said.
A dormitory starts with a coat rack
Angelina Ilina, a student of the Higher School of Psychology and Pedagogy, believes that the most necessary things are, first of all, utensils: spoons, plates, pans, pots and pans, etc. Also, a first-year student needs stationery and bath organisers to keep everything they need in one place, an extension cord or tee, and hangers. ‘Bring an umbrella and warm clothes, as the weather in Khanty-Mansiysk can be unpredictable and it can snow at the end of October,’ Angelina advises.
A vacuum cleaner? Interesting...
Danil Lyakhov, a student of Polytechnic School, thinks that a first-year student should definitely take a vacuum cleaner with him. And it's a lifehack from the curator, because ‘sweeping is not always fast’. In Danil's opinion, it will be difficult for a first-year student without a microwave, and if there is no microwave, it will be necessary to urgently buy one.
Don't forget your passport!
Another student of the Higher School of Law, Oksana Kondratyuk, advises first-year students to make sure that all necessary documents and personal belongings are in place: passport, rubber slippers, bed linen, chargers, clothes, hygiene products (shampoo, toothbrush, towels, laundry powder, etc.). ‘You'll also definitely need a laptop and an extension cord with a button. Don't forget medication and stationery either. Anything related to cleaning is usually purchased by the whole block,’ the student added.
First aid kit, carpet and house slippers
Egor Savin, a student of the Higher School of Psychology and Pedagogy, also spoke about the importance of cosiness and comfort. The student is convinced that a floor rug will make your corner in the dormitory more cosy, and a table cloth will add style to your working area. Also mandatory on the list are house slippers and comfortable clothes for home and study. ‘For me, dorm life was easy from the start, but it's important that you have a pharmacy kit (antipyretics, painkillers, antiseptics) in case it comes in handy,’ the curator recommends.
We hope these tips will be useful to you, our dear first-year student! And we are looking forward to seeing you at YuSU!
