Rector of Yugra State University Roman Kuchin and Associate Professor of the Higher School of Digital Economy Tatiana Dyatlova take part in the V Northern Sustainable Development Forum in Yakutsk.
This year's anniversary event is dedicated to the issues of resilience of Arctic regions and cities, global partnership for sustainable development of the North, creative industries and culture of the Arctic, climate change and permafrost thawing. The business program will be held at 60 expert platforms. The II Scientific and Practical Conference on Climate Change and Permafrost Thawing will be held as part of the international event.
At the Plenary opening of the Forum, the participants were welcomed by:
- Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aysen Nikolaev
- Ruslan Kukharuk, Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra
- Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District;
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.
Aysen Nikolaev noted the important role of international scientific research, development and innovation, and that progress and development for the benefit of the peoples is possible only with the cooperation of the state, business, science and public organizations. He supported the creation of the Russian-Asian Arctic Research Consortium in partnership with the Northern Forum and the North-Eastern Federal University.
Ruslan Kukharuk told about the projects implemented under the aegis of Northern Forum in the region. It should be reminded that according to the results of the XV General Assembly of the Northern Forum in July 2023, Yugra acts as the presiding region in the Northern Forum during 2023-2025. Ruslan Kukharuk emphasized the importance of uniting the efforts of experts to analyze the upcoming global changes and take the necessary measures to respond to climate challenges in time, and also made a proposal to hold the International Conference on Youth Arctic in 2025 in one of the cities of Yugra. “The future of the regions directly depends on climate change. And this must be taken into account when planning the socio-economic development of territories. This approach is also set forth in the updated climate doctrine of the Russian Federation”, - Ruslan Kukharuk is sure.
“By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, two western districts of Yugra - Berezovsky and Beloyarsky - are included in the Arctic zone of Russia. Both districts are located 200 kilometers south of Salekhard and 200-300 kilometers from the Gulf of Ob, but occupy territories on different banks of the Ob. The Arctic zone of Russia is the largest territory with special administrative regulation and an Arctic strategy, which includes the development of knowledge-intensive and high-tech industries, socio-economic development, and environmental preservation. And today, more than ever before, it is important to focus on training the personnel necessary to ensure the viability and sustainable development of the Arctic, the realization of modern scientific research, development and innovation. YuSU is a participant of the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Research (RACAR) and is actively involved in the climate agenda. The unique experience of the YuSU Mukhrino Carbon Polygon, the ability to develop and implement natural-climate projects in cooperation with industrial partners, and the support of the Yugra government allow us to participate in several important projects being implemented in Russia,” Roman Kuchin noted.
“The importance of the Arctic for mankind, first of all, is determined by the fact that it is this region that affects the state of the environment worldwide and the application of the concept of sustainable development in the Arctic is a strategic decision,” shared Tatiana Dyatlova.
