YuSU hosted a series of online lectures by Salym Petroleum Development experts

Yugra University together with Salym Petroleum Development (SPD), its long-term partner, organised and held online events as part of the Future Skills programme. The company's specialists introduced their best practices to the university's students and staff. This is the fourth year of the lecture series. The topics were recommended by the university and supported by the oil company experts.

The first two lectures were attended by students of the Higher Oil School of YuSU. They learnt about hydraulic fracturing technology and digitalisation of the well construction process.

The first online lecture was given by Dmitry Chaplygin, Production Technologist, SPD Production Intensification Engineer. The specialist spoke about the evolution of hydraulic fracturing technology, one of the enhanced oil recovery methods. The company has been using this technology since 2005. The students learnt when hydraulic fracturing technology appeared and what it is, what kind of fracturing equipment is used in Western Siberia, and learnt about the experience of using the method in North America.

The speaker explained what the limits of well profitability are, ways to maximise oilfield performance.

The second lecture, dedicated to the digitalisation of the well construction process, was given by Oleg Kruglov, leading specialist of the SPD Drilling Control and Digitalisation System. The expert noted that digitalisation in drilling is the integration of various technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Things, to optimise and automate the drilling process.

The specialist emphasised that the importance of digitalisation in the oil and gas industry can hardly be overestimated. It reduces drilling time, minimises human failures, optimises material and energy costs, and lowers equipment maintenance costs. In addition, digitalisation improves safety during operations and helps achieve environmental standards.

Oleg Kruglov's report details the key trends in digitalisation of well drilling - artificial intelligence, big data, internet of things, technologies used, problems and challenges, as well as the future of digitalisation in drilling.

The students were able to ask questions to the speakers and were given qualified answers.

Ainaz Mavlemberdin, a 4th year student of the Higher Oil School, shared his impression: "The information is useful and helps to understand what is going on in the fields and in companies in general. It is necessary to be advanced in all aspects, speaking in modern language, to be in trend".

A lecture on personal goal-setting (motivation and achievement control) was given to university personnel and students by Ekaterina Vetrova, Head of the SPD Training and Development Team. The lecture consisted of three blocks dedicated to goal setting, planning and self-motivation. Thus, the expert explained the difference between a goal and a dream, and the difference between formulating global (long-term) and short-term goals.

Ekaterina introduced the audience to the ways of self-motivation, including, for example, such methods as public statements, encouragement with "intermediate joys", success diary, learning from the best and others. The "Smart" technique, which was also described by the speaker, is familiar to students: the university's educational programmes also contain a mandatory component on the development of "soft skills" in order to form a versatile personality and prepare for subsequent effective professional activity. The lecture was held in interactive format. After listening to each block of information, the participants were asked to evaluate their skills and express their opinion about what they had heard.

"The greatest interest of the participants was aroused by such tools as "Balance Wheel", which allows to analyse the fullness of life and its most important spheres, "Strategic Cardboard" and "Follow Up Calendar", which help to monitor the movement to the goal", - said the Head of the International Office Oksana Golololobova.
