YuSU presented the results of the Russian Climate Monitoring System project for 2023

The Centre for Forest Ecology and Productivity of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the II Reporting Conference "Carbon in Terrestrial Ecosystems: Monitoring. Implementation of the most important innovation project of national importance". Participants of the consortium "RITM Carbon" of the project "Russian Climate Monitoring System" (the most important innovative project of national importance) summarised the results of work for 2023.

Elena Lapshina, Director of the Research Centre "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change", Alexander Sabrekov, researcher of the Laboratory of Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations of Forest-Peatland Complexes, and Danil Ilyasov, Head of the Laboratory for the Study of Spatial and Temporal Variability of Carbon Balance in Forest and Peatland Ecosystems of the Middle Taiga of Western Siberia, presented the results of the work of Yugra State University.

YuSU is one of the participants in the implementation of the "Russian Climate Monitoring System" project. Within the framework of the project, the university researchers - employees of the UNESCO Chair "DOSIGIC" - have the task to monitor the dynamics of carbon stocks in typical bog ecosystems of the middle taiga of Western Siberia to assess the rate of carbon deposition in these ecosystems.

In 2023, the work of university scientists was aimed at developing a methodology for estimating carbon stocks in a bog and applying it to study the carbon cycle of bogs and its impact on the Earth's climate. Such research requires careful planning, including the choice of measurement methods, high frequency and wide geographical coverage of measurements, as well as the development of techniques for processing and analysing the data obtained.
