A Yugra Freshmen Parade took place in the city of Surgut last weekend. Natalia Komarova, the Governor of Yugra; Aleksey Drenin, Head of Department for Education and Youth Policy; Aleksandr Pelevin, acting mayor of Surgut; Sergey Savchuk, CEO at Tyumenenergo Company; Irina Maksimova, Chairperson of the Public Chamber; and Sergey Kosenok, Rector of Surgut State University were on the parade alongside with the students.

– Modern Yugra is the largest knowledge producing factory. It is solely you my friends – students, your teachers and tutors who raise and disseminate knowledge. Today you, freshmen, have become an active and significant part of the entire student community, educational brotherhood. You have people to look up to. May good fortune be with you. We are looking forward to seeing you in the adult challenging world and would like you to succeed, – Ms. Komarova instructed the freshman.

The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev also addressed to the attendees of the parade. – Throughout its existence this unique project has evolved into a bright and vibrant celebration. Once again today it brought together hundreds of thousands freshmen from many regions of our big country... We believe in you. We believe you are the most gifted and talented ones. And you will definately succeed, - the address reads.

The column of over 400 students marched from the City Philharmonic Hall to the main building of Surgut State University having passed the arcway of the Cyril and Methodius Monument, as was the tradition.

Students from Yugra have participated in the event for the second time compared to Moscow hosted the parade for 16 consecutive years. This time nearly 40 Russian cities hosted the event.
