The All-Russian Contest "Student of the Year" – regional stage was held in the city of Pyt-Yakh, Khanty-Mansiysk AO. There were around 50 selected student community representatives to win the coveted title. All of them showed excellent academic performance and social activism in their home institutions. Seven students of Yugra State Univesity were given credit to become honorable delegates at the contest.

Anyhow, YUSU students were announced to be the region's best in 2017, with two gold and four silver medals.

The "Best Volunteer Award" went to Aldabergeg Panaev, Institute of Humanities.
The "Best International Student Award" was given to Anastasia Mashinist, Institute of Humanities.

The runner-ups and silver medal winners became:

– Natalia Mizina in nomination "Young Researcher";
– Zaliya Shaikhutdinova in nomination "Creative Personality';
– Ekaterina Denisova in nomination "Student Leader";
– Albina Nurmagomedova in nomination "Athlete of the Year".

The special prize "Journalism" went to Alyona Taskaeva, Institute of Humanities.
