Tatyana Dyatlova, Associate Professor at the YSU Higher School of Digital Economy, Coordinator of the Association of Finno-Ugric Universities, member of the Presidium of the Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples of the Russian Federation, took part in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). The twenty-third session of UNPFII takes place from 15 to 26 April in New York. This year's central theme is "Strengthening indigenous peoples' right to self-determination in the context of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: highlighting the voices of indigenous youth".

The Russian delegation included representatives of indigenous NGOs from the Krasnoyarsk and Kamchatka Territories, Yamal and Yugra, Murmansk Region, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), as well as winners and finalists of the second season of the all-Russian educational programme "School of Public Diplomacy". They shared Russian experience in the six areas of the Permanent Forum's mandate: economic and social development, culture, environmental protection, education, health care and human rights.

According to Tatyana Dyatlova, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, which is held at UN Headquarters in New York, is attended not only by indigenous peoples themselves, but also by representatives of governmental structures of states in the world's regions.

Igor Barinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities of the Russian Federation, noted in his speech at the 23rd session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues: "Unlike many other countries and regions of the world, Russia has been able to preserve even its smallest indigenous peoples and their way of life. Unlike many regions, Russia has preserved its smallest indigenous peoples and their way of life. This allows us to rely on our own tested standards and opinions on many issues."

"The Forum discussed issues related to economic and social development, culture, environmental protection, education, health and human rights of indigenous peoples. Our indigenous representatives shared positive experiences and new developments in the protection of indigenous peoples' rights, which can serve as a good example for the world community and representatives of States and indigenous peoples. Today is indeed a time not for slogans, but for work. Teamwork and co-ordination in all regions of the Russian Federation," said Tatyana Alexandrovna.
