At the meeting of the YuSU Board of Trustees the results of the university's activities for 2024 were summarized

Yugra State University hosted a number of solemn events dedicated to the Foundation Day of the educational institution. One of them was a meeting of the Yugra State University Board of Trustees chaired by the Chairman of the Duma Boris Khokhryakov.

“Today our meeting of the Board of Trustees is held in an expanded composition. Members of the Academic Council of YuSU and the student community are present here. We have four main issues on the agenda concerning the development of Yugra State University,” Boris Khokhryakov welcomed the attendees. - Yugra State University is a whole world, and its population is 10.5 thousand students. Excellent conditions have been created for them to study, to do science, to socialize, to live. The university allows to keep talented young people in the region, and at the same time inquisitive minds from other regions strive to come to YuSU”.

For all those gathered in the hall, Roman Kuchin, Rector of YuSU, presented the results of Yugra State University's activities for 2024.

“This year was very effective and productive, so there is a desire to summarize the results to know your opinion, whether we are moving in the right direction”, - Roman Viktorovich addressed the participants of the meeting.

Today the University is more than 10.5 thousand students of higher (4276 students) and secondary (5803 students) professional education programs, 578 scientists and teachers, the main campus is located in Khanty-Mansiysk. Its area is more than 66 thousand square meters and 4 branches in the cities of the region, 8 comfortable dormitories for 2600 places, Sports Complex of 12,793 square meters, youth laboratories, Carbon Polygon.

“Our performance is evaluated through integrative indicators of ratings. Ratings are an important indicator of success and competitiveness of any university”, - said the head of the university.

Among the significant results he emphasized:

- 83rd place among Russian universities by the level of employment of graduates.

- The university was included in the pilot rating of universities of BRICS countries. In total, it includes 600 educational institutions from 10 countries of the association: Brazil, Egypt, India, Iran, China, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and South Africa. Yugra State University was included in the list of participating universities and ranked 451-500.

- Yugra State University for the first time entered the rating of universities on the quality of training specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and immediately took the leading position among the universities of Ugra. Our university is located in the D++ group along with the leading technical universities of Russia. This year the indicators of 207 universities were taken into account.

- For the second year in a row Yugra University is among the Top 200 universities in Russia out of 800 by all development indicators, outperforming the universities of the region, and in the context of the Urals Federal District it is among the top six.

- In the Global Aggregate Ranking YuSU is among the top 15% of the best universities in the world. This rating includes 13 most authoritative global institutional ratings, such as QS, Times Higher Education, ARWU, Three University Missions, RUR, Hirsch Index rating and others. In total, the rating includes more than 3.5 thousand universities from 132 countries. In total, 153 Russian universities are present in the global aggregate rating.

Roman Viktorovich also noted the successes in the sphere of international activities: “We are increasingly reaching the level not of the CIS countries, but of our foreign partners who are outside this range. In the new message of our Minister of Science and Education Valery Falkov there is a goal - to increase the number of foreign students from 350 to 500 thousand people by 2032. Certain activities are being carried out to synchronize the work of universities and our recruiters who deal with this. We have also achieved very good results here. If we talk about real students, just 4 years ago we had 11 students from Zambia and Ghana, and now the list of countries has expanded, the preparatory department “Russian as a foreign language” is working very well, and as a consequence, new students come to us”.

Among the significant achievements the scientific direction was singled out. Science is an integral part of the life of a modern university. Its scope and efficiency determine the future of any modern university. In close cooperation with industrial partners YuSU takes an active part in the performance of research work in several priority scientific directions: ecology, energy, mathematics, petrochemistry.

“The pride of the university is our youth laboratories. Today the statistical data are such that a total of 940 laboratories were opened within the framework of the National Project “Science and University”. Of these, 362 were opened in educational organizations, all the rest - in scientific organizations. If we correlate them with the number of universities, then approximately 0.5 laboratories per educational organization in Russia. We took away 3 laboratories! This allowed us to attract to the university for the last 4 years about 128 million rubles, which went both for salaries and for the renewal of the material and technical base. I would like to note that 2 laboratories got prolongation of their work. This is also a certain indicator of the effectiveness and importance of scientific research conducted by them”, - Roman Kuchin emphasized.

After that the report on the update of the university development program for 2023-2032 was heard. Roman Kuchin outlined the trends in higher education, difficulties and prospects.

“The program of strategic development of the university is one of the fundamental documents. Every year there are new inputs from the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the regulatory and legal framework changes. All this tells us how we should develop and where to go next. Today, in general, in the development of science and education, as well as the development of universities in the Russian Federation, there is a great need for a timely response to external challenges. We, in our turn, try to interpret and implement innovations and requirements in our existing development program until 2032”, - commented Roman Viktorovich.

Based on his information, we can conclude that at the moment it is necessary to focus on three main basic indicators:

- ensuring technological independence, the economy of the Russian Federation,

- preparation for entering a new stage of development of the higher education system. 6 universities have already been included in the pilot experiment of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. At the moment we are working on a project for the development of our education system as a whole, including schools and additional vocational education courses, as well as vocational education and training programs.

- transition from resource management to value creation management.

“Everything around us is indeed changing, both the world and the requirements, and we should really be ready here and work ahead of the times,” noted the rector of YuSU.

Speaking about certain aspects of the YuSU strategic development program, Roman Viktorovich focused on the fact that it was decided to reduce the portfolio of stratprojects to two priority ones - in order to achieve the desired result.

In the passing year 2024 certain successes were achieved by the YuSU Endowment Fund. Preliminary results were presented by Oleg Mosin, Advisor to the Rectorate of the university, Executive Director of the Fund.

At the moment the total amount of the university endowment is 6.3 million rubles. As Oleg Valentinovich noted, it is planned to reach 7.5 million rubles by the end of 2024.

“This is also reflected in the university development program,” the speaker stressed.

“The Endowment Fund is a unique structure that allows to provide sustainable funding for the activities and development of an organization, in our case Yugra State University, to implement educational and research agenda, to bring ambitious projects to life in order to improve the competitiveness of higher education and the economy. The Fund will allow to attract additional target capital to finance various projects of the higher education institution,” commented Boris Khokhryakov.

The final part of the meeting was the so-called “Business Expo” exhibition of student projects. A total of 4 developments were presented.

Kirill Zagaykevich, a 4th year student of “Oil and Gas Business” direction presented a VR-training simulator for students and employees of oil and gas field companies. The development can be used for training students, professional development and recertification of employees of oil and gas companies. Such technologies increase the competitiveness of companies and educational institutions, as well as employees on the labor market. A pilot launch of the simulator has already been realized at the Yugra State University.

On the initiative of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the federal project “Personnel for Digital Industry” is being implemented. Yugra has become the first region to create an infrastructure for controlling unmanned aircraft systems for civilian needs. Yugra State University became a platform for realization of the project - the regional stage of the All-Russian competition “Cyberdrome”. Artem Lisimov, senior lecturer of the Engineering School of Digital Technologies, said that the aim of the project is to train highly qualified personnel in the field of unmanned aircraft systems ground robotics, attracting young people to the introduction of innovative technologies to solve promising problems in the interests of organizations and enterprises of industry and socio-economic development of the Russian Federation. Students who successfully passed the comprehensive exam with 80+ points will receive certificates of the working profession “Operator of UAV with maximum take-off weight of 30 kg and less”.

Two more student projects relate to the sphere of educational services. Thus, Maxim Musaev and Margarita Mitina, 3rd year Chemistry students, presented the Skills educational platform - an online platform where users can share knowledge and learn new things. According to the guys, “SkillS” will allow to form a community of people passionate about the availability of forms and directions for learning and development.

“BizLab” is a diploma project of the 4th year students of ‘Economics’ direction Daria Dolbiyeva and Alisa Zhuravleva. The girls create courses on entrepreneurship for schoolchildren, in which the theory of business, marketing, cybersecurity, sales is given. At the end of the training the children will defend their projects.

It should be noted that all the projects of YSU students aroused genuine interest of the members of the Board of Trustees.

Summarizing the meeting of the Board of Trustees Rector of YuSU Roman Kuchin expressed his gratitude to the personnel and students for the work done: “I feel proud of our university, for the dynamics that you and I together have given in the last few years to the development of our educational institution. We look very worthy not only at the level of the region, the Tyumen Oblast, but also at the level of the Urals Federal District. This is all your merit, so I am proud of the personnel and students of YuSU”.
