Outcomes of the year 2025
An extended meeting of the University's Board of Trustees was held at the Yugra-Classic Cultural and Leisure Center. The main topic of the meeting was summing up the University's activities for 2025. As per tradition, members of the YSU Academic Council also participated in the final meeting.
Boris Khokhryakov, Chairman of the Council and Chairman of the Duma, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. "YSU is a true talent pool; its graduates are in high demand both in the region and beyond. The university's original goal—to ensure that children born in Yugra could study and work here—has been achieved!" noted Boris Sergeyevich.
YSU Rector Roman Kuchin presented detailed information on the university's achievements, its staff, and students.
Today, YSU has over 10,000 students enrolled in 119 educational programs, approximately 1,000 staff members, and 136 graduate students. The university has a broad geographic presence. Its main campus is located in Khanty-Mansiysk. In addition, the university has four branches in other cities in the region: Lyantor, Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, and Nefteyugansk. Educational activities are conducted through eight higher education institutions, the Center for Educational Engineering, and the Multidisciplinary College.
Roman Viktorovich also emphasized the university's internal network. A young teaching and research community has coalesced. 45% of the staff are under 35 years of age.
In 2025, the university strengthened its position as a leading educational and scientific center, which is confirmed by high results in national and international rankings. For example, in the Interfax ranking, YSU ranked 136-139 (versus 194-199 in 2024). Thus, YSU occupies a leading position in Yugra, among the top 3 in the Tyumen Oblast, and among the top 10 in the Urals Federal District, ranking 7th.
Summarizing the results of the 2025/26 Admissions Campaign, the rector noted an increase in the average passing score, which reached 66.5 compared to 2024.
Positive dynamics in the outgoing year were noted in international activities. Despite the geopolitical situation, the university is actively strengthening its international influence. Currently, YSU and 163 international students from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Zambia, Ghana, and Egypt are studying at the university's branches. The faculty also has an international presence: nine foreign faculty members from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Syria, Egypt, and Zambia work at YSU. Five years ago, the university had none.
Given the transformation of approaches in the higher education system, Tatyana Grosheva, Head of the YSU Development Program, presented a report on updating the university's development strategy. Three new focus areas have been identified for future work, taking into account federal and regional objectives:
- transition to practice-oriented education, deeply integrated with the needs of the labor market and industrial partners.
- participation of the university in the implementation of national development goals, including increasing labor productivity and graduate employability.
- contribution to the scientific and technological development of the region.
The final part of the meeting included a presentation of the Endowment Fund named after Alexander Filipenko, the first governor of Yugra. Despite the fact that The YSU Federal Center for Competitive Development was established quite recently, but in a short period of time, it has already achieved significant results.
"A great deal of work lies ahead, but with our joint efforts, we will definitely achieve all our goals," YSU's rector concluded the meeting.
