Presentation of social projects "Kind University" was held at YuSU

Yugra State University hosted a presentation of social projects, which students worked on developing and implementing during the year within the framework of "Project Activities".

The guests of the event were Roman Kuchin, Rector of Yugra State University, Ivan Khlebnikov, Head of Youth Policy Department of Youth Policy, Civil Initiatives and External Relations of Yugra, Tatyana Kostyleva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, personnel and students of the university.

In September 2023, the Office of Student Projects gathered a showcase of more than 100 projects of different directions to be chosen by students for further implementation. Almost 40% of the projects are external, i.e. they came from YuSU partners - social customers. To date, these are more than 15 organisations (SO NPOs, NGOs, state and municipal budgetary institutions, social entrepreneurs, museums, libraries, etc.). About 50 per cent of all projects are social. 20% of projects are socially significant and have an external customer.

"Today there are no losers or winners among you! Each of you has already done well and achieved great success, you were able to realise your initiatives. This fair is an indicator of that. The problems of the projects are really acute and urgent! It is important that there is a result, a specific customer, and an understanding of where to go next! I wish everyone success in future work, do not stop at what you have achieved and move forward!", - Roman Kuchin supported and encouraged the teams.

"I would like to note that all the presented projects are great! A lot of cool and cool ideas! And your excitement shows that you really care about everything you did! And indifference is a value that is not often found in the modern world. We have a wonderful practice in Yugra - the "Learning by Serving" programme. Not every region has such programmes, and Yugra is very lucky in this respect! You have it, and today we saw the result of its implementation! To be honest, I even envied you, because in my time there were no such opportunities", - shared Ivan Khlebnikov.

In the format of poster presentations, teams of students involved in solving socially significant problems presented their projects to the guests. Among them:

- Samodelkin's Workshop (making a homemade children's book);

- Redesign of the website of the Khanty-Mansiysk District Public Organisation of Veterans;

- Hospital trainings for children with disabilities;

- Volunteer group "Kolobok";

- University-wide social action "Darmarka";

- Giving kindness (a joint project with OKB);

- Volunteers of the Russian language.

At the end of the presentations, the students answered questions and received recommendations for further implementation of their projects.

For example, the project "Curious Hands" is aimed at enabling children with visual impairment to adapt and reproduce elements of the environment.

"Our tactile books compensate children for the ability to fully reproduce the surrounding world by means of visual and practical perception of environmental elements by the child. At the moment we have the book "New Year" ready, which reflects all the traditions of the holiday, and 3 more books related to space, underwater world and household chores are in development", - shared the team participants.

Students from the team of the project "Hospital trainings for children with disabilities" told that the problem of their project is that children with autism spectrum disorder and other mental disorders have difficulties in undergoing medical procedures. This is due to their heightened acute reactions to specific external hospital stimuli such as light, sounds, smells and touch.

"With each child the work was based on individual goals and with the selection of individualised tools. After the trainings we noted the dynamics of positive reactions in children to medical manipulations and as a consequence the improvement of the quality of life of both children and their parents", - commented the team members.

At the end of the event, students and teachers involved in the project were honoured and awarded, and words of gratitude from the social customers - partners were heard.

"Often when working with children with disabilities we have to deal with aggression and inappropriate behaviour. And when you look at these fragile girls, you realise how brave they are! And not so much because they took up this issue, but because they brought this project to an end. Among our children there are those who have really made great progress and were able to undergo certain procedures. This is a very big success. I don't want to say goodbye, because every year, unfortunately, there are only more such children and the need for such projects is growing," said Oksana Yevlanova, head of the RASsvet Children's Development Centre.

"When I came here, I thought that our project was the best! But such kindness enveloped me with all your projects that I want to thank each of you. Thank you to our volunteers for dedicating themselves and all their time to our children. Kids are hard to fool! You became elder mentors for them with whom they could share some of their information, they waited for you and really loved those Saturdays when you came to them. I am very sorry that the project is over, I don't want to leave! I thank the Yugra State University administration for this kind volunteer initiative", - said Olga Karpova, Chief Nurse of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra Okrug Clinical Hospital.
