The final stage of the case championship "#I’m oilman" started at YuSU

Teams of students from Khanty-Mansiysk, Nyagan, Lyantor, Oktyabrsky and Nefteyugansk districts will compete for victory in the final of the intellectual competition - case championship of Yugra State University "# I’m oilman". During three days interesting lectures, master-classes and excursions are waiting for the finalists. Maxim Korolev, Head of the Higher Oil School of Yugra State University, welcomed the high school students. He noted that during the case championship students will learn a lot about energy, oil and gas, chemistry and engineering.

"Students learn everything from how dinosaurs died millions of years ago, how oil was formed, how it is extracted and refined over several years of study. We'll go through this whole cycle with you over the three days of the case championship. In addition to the fact that you will have a task in which you will analyse a field, its development, exploitation, propose modern methods and technologies to increase recovery, we will also conduct a scientific and educational part, see how certain professions are involved in the process of field exploitation, and, most importantly, what stages the process itself consists of. Today we will look at drilling in detail," Maxim Igorevich addressed the participants of the case championship.

A lecture on modern well drilling technologies was delivered to the finalists by Nikolay Shamsutdinov, a lecturer of the Higher School and Head of the TRIZ Development Centre of Gazpromneft-TP LLC. Also awaiting the finalists was a master class on drilling mud preparation and VR-technologies in oil and gas business from Nevitech, a company founded by YuSU students.

"We held a master class for schoolchildren in the VR-class opened at our university. Here schoolchildren could virtually visit production facilities - well pads, and try themselves in the role of an oilman," said Kirill Zagaykevich, a student of the Higher Oil School and CEO of Nevitech.

Maria Khvorostyanaya, a team member from Poikovsky, Nefteyugansk district, also took part in the oil industry. The high school student said that she really liked the virtual reality developed by the students of YuSU, the girl was able to turn the valve, walk around the location, listen to the comments of the author-developer. The participant of the case championship also told about her preferences in studies and participation in the tournament. "I am closest to exact sciences - computer science, chemistry, physics, I am interested in these subjects. Our team proposed to introduce artificial intelligence to transfer data, a special tank for oil to be refined and a robot to search for oil in the deposits. It was very interesting to look for additional information, materials needed to solve the case study. It was very interesting to hear about hydraulic fracturing and other technologies at the lectures. My impressions of YuSU are positive. Maybe I will even think about enrolling here," the finalist of the case championship shared her impressions.

After the virtual walk, the guys solved case studies. The teams implemented innovative technologies that could be useful in oil production at a particular field - the use of drones, AI, robotics. Irina Kvach and Olga Nanishvili, senior professors of HSO, developed the case assignments and made a significant contribution to the organisation of the championship. It should be noted that each team was assigned a supervisor from among the students of the higher school. They are Igor Karsakov, Sergey Kopylov, Maria Lyubovich, Violetta Tkacheva, Aynaz Mavlemberdin, Ilya Berezovsky, Adelia Askarova, Danil Munin, Ravan Abdullaev and Dmitry Kalabin.

"The duties of team supervisors include advising teams on the technical part of the solution, directing ideas in a constructive direction, introducing teams to oil and gas production technologies, and conducting a reflection on the case solution," said Igor Karsakov.

Tomorrow the participants will be told about what a field is. The lecture will be given by Alexey Zinoviev, Senior Researcher of SamaraNIPIneft LLC. A career guidance test will also be conducted among the participants. In addition to solving cases, high school students will also be able to visit the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas and take part in a master class "Chemistry of Oil and Gas" in the laboratory of YuSU.

The results of the championship will be summed up on Friday, 29 March. On that day, the teams will make their presentations.

The case championship is held to promote professional orientation of schoolchildren, to create conditions for the development of talented young people with high motivation to study in higher education, to attract talented young people to Yugra's higher education institutions to study in the engineering and technical areas that are in demand in the region. The case-championship is held with the use of the Yugra Governor's grant for the development of civil society and implementation of projects in the field of culture, art and creative industries, provided by the Centre for Civil and Social Initiatives of Yugra Foundation. We would like to remind you that the winner of the grant in the direction of "Support for Children and Youth Projects" was Irina Kvach, a senior professor at the Higher Oil School.
