Which locations in the okrug's capital are worth seeing first of all? Let's make no secret of it - there is a lot of choice for non-resident students. Our curators helped us to select the most important places. Here are their tips.
Creative solutions
Vladislav Babkin, a student of the Higher School of Law, visited the university first thing in his time. And then went straight to the nearby Boris Losev Park, where there is a fountain called ‘Ob and Irtysh’.
‘The park made a great impression on me with its beauty, creative solutions and well-maintained,’ notes the curator.
Walking along the embankment
Pavel Fedoseyev, a student of the School of Digital Technologies Engineering, knows exactly the place where many interesting events take place. And this is the ‘Art Residence “On the Shore”’. It is located near the arranged embankment, a favourite place for walks of citizens. Also, the student shared a lifehack with first-year students.
‘On Mira Street - the main street of Khanty-Mansiysk - there are a lot of shops where you can find almost everything you need, it is also a good place to take a walk,’ the student said.
For those who like masterclasses
Angelina Yudina, a student of the Higher Psychological and Pedagogical School of YuSU, knows where in the city to spend time with benefit. ‘If you are a fan of masterclasses, I recommend visiting the atmospheric place ‘Kultshtab’, there are always different film evenings, meetings of like-minded people, and also there you can eat very tasty food and buy local souvenirs.’ The curator also advises freshmen to take a walk in the Samarovsky Chugas Nature Park. In these places, according to Angelina, one feels at one with nature, the mighty cedars and pines.
Thrilling spectacles
Yana Egorova, a student of the Higher School of Ecology, is convinced that hockey is the place to go for thrills. The most spectacular matches take place at the Arena-Yugra, where HC Yugra plays. ‘Be sure to go to hockey, it is a very nice game and there you will experience incredible emotions,’ - the girl is sure.
Feel the winter capital of Russia
Darya Pimenova, a student of the Higher School of Humanities, advises to really feel the atmosphere of Khanty-Mansiysk by visiting the Archeopark cultural and tourist complex, where there is a park of sculptures depicting Pleistocene animals and Palaeolithic people. Thus, the composition ‘Mammoths’ is located in a very original way: the giants seem to have just come out of the forest and walk along the foot of Samarovsky Hill. The composition includes seven sculptures - a whole family headed by a huge mammoth 8 meters tall and weighing 70 tonnes. The smallest member of the procession is a mammoth cub 3 meters tall.
‘The amazing interweaving of history and art will take you back millions of years and amaze you with its scale,’ Daria emphasises.
A photo to remember
Polytechnic School student Egor Kalmykov knows where to take cool photos. ‘There are a lot of beautiful places in Khanty-Mansiysk, but first of all I would recommend visiting the district library. Here you can borrow a book and, without leaving the building, read in an atmospheric place or take a couple of cool photos.’
Everyone to the museum!
Egor Savin, another student of the Higher School of Psychology and Pedagogy, is convinced that it is impossible to pass by the Museum of Nature and Man. This exhibition complex combines palaeontological, natural-scientific, ethnographic and local history. ‘Immerse yourself in the world of nature and history of Siberia, learn a lot of interesting things from professionals,’ the curator advises.
