“Week of Russian Language” at YuSU

Yugra State University hosted the “Week of Russian Language” in foreign countries. The aim of the event was to popularize the Russian language and Russian culture in the world.

The set of events began with immersion of children in Russian folklore. For the participants - students and migrant children from Khanty-Mansiysk schools No. 6 and No. 9 - a quiz “In the footsteps of Russian fairy tales and bylinas” was held. They were shown video clips with fragments of Soviet and Russian movies, learned about the heroes of Russian fairy tales, interesting facts about villains and bogatyrs, as well as similarities inherent in Russian folk tales. The title of the best connoisseur in the quiz went to Fatima Sharipova, a student of School No. 9.

“As a child I enjoyed reading fairy tales and watching cartoons based on them, and I think this helped me to win. I like such events very much and I would gladly come again,” said the schoolgirl.

The work of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was also discussed. At the popular science online seminar “Color and light in the fairy tales of Alexander Pushkin” students learned about the features of the author's works and the meaning of color in them.

It turns out that most often there prevail:

- gold - it symbolizes prosperity, holiness, kindness, hospitality,

- white symbolizes loyalty, love,

- black symbolizes darkness, evil,

- red can mean pride, beauty, marriage is a symbol of family, sometimes the color of sin.

At the end the kids talked about their favorite colors, their meanings and what the colors on their flags symbolize. The highlight was the performance of the 1st year student Festus Essilfie - in the character of Pushkin he perfectly recited several of his poems.

The final event of the “Week of Russian Language” was the Youth Teleconference with the Russian House in Lusaka. It was dedicated to popularization and promotion of Russian education among the young people from Zambia.

“The guys who were on the other side of the screen are those who are already studying Russian and preparing to go to Russian universities, but are still facing a choice, so we are trying to help them make up their minds in this way,” commented Oksana Gololobova, Director of the Center for International Cooperation.

Nkumbu Silungwe, a 4th year student of “Civil Engineering”, activist, excellent student and president of the African community, told the future applicants about life in YuSU. About the structure of the university, scholarships, dormitories, enrollment and social life of students. Guys from Zambia listened to him attentively and afterwards asked questions about the advantages of studying in Russia, culture, Russian cuisine and, of course, the harsh winter of Khanty-Mansiysk.

Such events create a space for cultural exchange, allowing participants to learn about the life of international students.
