YuSU linguistics students celebrated International Translator's Day

They traveled through time, showed their talents and gave the oath of an interpreter. YuSU hosted a festive event dedicated to the International Translator's Day, which is celebrated on September 30. The students of the Higher School of Humanities of the Linguistics program prepared a whole fairy-tale performance. They sang, danced, acted out skits and made a video.

Ilya Gerasimenko, head of the "Yugra Word Wizards" student association, conducted tests for the first-year students. What is important for a translator? Of course, memory! The guys tested their memorization skills and described a picture from memory. The winner, who memorized the most details, received a certificate for a free lunch in the dining hall.

At the event, they also awarded the most active students and Olga Hopiyainen, Head of the Department for Coordination of Scientific Activities, with commendations for their contribution to winning the competition “Rosmolodezh.Grants: Season 1”. We would like to remind you that the head of “Yugra Word Wizards” Ilya Gerasimenko won the grant for the creation of the Laboratory of Educational Technologies. Thanks for help in preparing the application, fruitful cooperation, mentoring in the development of public initiatives and project activities in Yugra State University was also received by our graduate Valery Golovanchuk. In turn, Ilya suggested that first-year students actively participate in conversation clubs and trainings of “Yugra Word Wizards” and get involved in the international activities of the university.

“Participate in events, communicate in our chat room in a foreign language, write texts for our community. After all, the most active student will get a prize - a certificate for training at the school of audiovisual translation, this school will be especially useful for those who want to translate TV series, programs, etc.”, - said Ilya Gerasimenko. By the way, the next training will take place this Saturday: the students will be visited by a guest speaker who will give a fascinating master class, as well as the students will play a corporate role-playing game and plunge into a fantasy world.

The culmination of the event was the interpreter's oath, which was given by the freshmen. They repeated the words of the oath following the head of Yugra Word Wizards. Thus, the students swore to be faithful to the original and at the same time not to change their native language, to be models of professionalism, to follow the translation logic and ethics, to constantly improve their skills.

The most active students at the event were Milyausha Khismatullina, Dmitry Salyukov, Alexei Cheremiskin, Leila Niftalieva, Nikita Orlovsky, Maria Samsonova, Dmitry Skachedubov, Valeria Krasnopeeva, Victoria Afanasyeva and Ekaterina Zaitseva. Students Baji Alieva, Varvara Achina, Maxim Sarzhin, Maxim Tamasyan, Maxim Albu, Leyla Shabanova, Valeria Gushchina, Sofia Smirnova, Daria Pimenova and Samira Saidova were also thanked. In turn, the students handed symbolic linguistic scrolls to the teachers of the higher school.

“In our souls, the Day of the Translator lives forever. We proudly bear with you the name of our profession - “Translator”. In our complex world, in which numerous transformations take place, always remain adequate,” Olga Hopiyainen, Head of the Department for Coordination of Scientific Activities, advised the students.
